The 2016 Grape Harvest

Regular flowering and fruit set

A mild spring without significant rains led to a good flowering period and fruit set.

Summer wasn’t too hot, and it rained regularly, especially in May-June. In the second half of August the temperatures increased, and thanks to frequent northerly winds the grapes ripened normally with a gradual accumulation of sugars and preservation of the aromas.

The harvest started with merlot in the last week of August. By the end of the first week of September we had picked the vermentino. By mid- September  we had picked all the merlot. The rains in mid-September helped all the sangiovese to reach perfect phenolic maturity. We finished harvesting the sangiovese, together with the petit verdot and cabernet sauvignon and franc, at the end of September.
