2021 was a year which required resilience, true grit.
It started with a mild winter followed by frequent spring rains, especially in March and May which allowed natural budding and growth.
Despite the frost of the 8th and 9th which delayed growth, especially for the sangiovese, the microclimates offered by the shape of our hills allowed most plants to resprout from the secondary bud and produce.
In the following summer months temperatures were much higher, but our clayey soil helped to hold enough water to face the first months of drought.
However in August high temperatures and almost no rain with just 10mm in July and August combined, caused great drought stress, especially in the younger or weaker plants whose grapes were slowly withering.
We therefore picked the grapes very early, starting on 29 August and finishing on 24 September. The quantity was less but quality was excellent despite the various difficulties we faced.
